NORTHPORT – The Northport Music Theater in its fifth season presented “The Bikinis” opening night Friday, July 22 to an enthusiastic crowd battling the heat, made harder by the energy put out on stage by four talented women and an outstanding band. The show stars Kathleen Hawkes (Jodi), Kim Murphy (Annie), Kathy Christie (Karla), and Alison Manion (Barbara). The Bikinis is directed by Peter Clain, music director is John Gelsinger and the artistic director and Betty in the play is Ruth Gelsinger. The band features Ruth Gelsinger on piano, Tony Shay, best known for his work with Al Corey’s Big Band on drums, Stefan Low, a guitar player that plays locally, is a treat to listen to. Lastly is Katrina Zemrack who has played a couple of plays at the Waterville Opera House and will be attending Columbia College of Chicago in the fall. While the Bikinis takes place on New Year’s Eve 1999, it is the story of middle aged band of ‘Jersey Girls’ that look back at their experience as a girl group when girl groups were the rage.
