I have for the past year been working with Lightroom 3 for the majority of my editing. I find it to be much easier to learn then it’s big brother Photoshop. It is a program made by photographers for photographers so as they are building it the needs of photographers is always a big consideration. Recently I found some presets from a software company called onOne perfect presets. (http://www.ononesoftware.com/products/perfect-presets-lightroom) This link will take you to the web page to download your free presets. Presets can be used in Lightroom for many different functions from changing white balance to exposure, noise reduction, cropping, and much, much more. Here I am going to show some examples of how to present a photo in a different view. I have chosen one of my favorite new photos from a session with Brighde Curtin to show many of the different settings you can achieve with the click of a single button. Here are some different examples of presets I have in Lightroom3 They are all labeled as to what the preset effect is on the photo.

Last Friday the Nikon Corp. unveiled the brand new Nikon D4. WOW! professional photographers take note. I must start saving my pennies so I can get one of these amazing cameras. So these are not resolutions for the new year per say, just some things I need to do this year to satisfy myself. These are in no particular order, but some are more obtainable then others. First off I have to get out of the house much more. I work at home and because of that I never shut down. I must find an office that is very affordable and hopefully this is the year I get to open my gallery and studio in a retail location as well, but will work on what is obtainable first and that is to find an office, accessible to the walk-in public. Shoot more, shoot different, shoot smarter, shoot less sports and more weddings, portraits, family, models, and still life’s. To shoot more I just need to get off my butt during the day and get out and about more. The smarter is to shoot what the other photographers are not more often. No need of radio and three photographers covering a game in the midcoast of high school sports when other games are going on and no one is there. By shooting less sports, having time to shoot more of everything...

Sunday my studio became the comedy store when Stephanie, Cassie and Olivia showed up to do some photos. Norma, Lindsay (Cassie’s sister) and I had times we were in fits of laughter watching and listening to the three girls. Photo wise, I am pretty happy with this gallery. I tried some different placement of lights with some different backdrops and I liked the results for the most part. I use Alien Bees 800w in my studio with a combination of overhead lights, shadow boxes and umbrella’s. I have a combination of muslin and paper backdrops. All of these photos were shot using a Nikon D3 with a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 at f4 which seems to be the sweet spot on this lens. I actually compared this lens with the Nikon 24-70 at almost $600 more and was not as impressed with it. Click here to see the entire photo gallery Here is a small sample of photos from this gallery
