This was the best display I was able to find today. Do you know where this is? Photo by Ron Hawkes

This information about the American Flag comes from a web site http://www.usflag.org/flag.day.html. Thursday was flag day and it was quite disappointing how few flags were flying today. Here are a few of the photos that I shot today around Rockland. The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America’s birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as ‘Flag Birthday’. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as ‘Flag Birthday’, or ‘Flag Day’. On June 14, 1889, George Balch, a kindergarten teacher in New York City, planned appropriate ceremonies for the children of his school, and his idea of observing Flag Day was later adopted by the State Board of Education of New York. On June 14, 1891, the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia held a Flag Day celebration, and on June 14 of the following year, the New...

Starting today we will no longer be posting links to our stories on Village Soup. I have decided that due to the fact they are charging customers to read their site, why should I pay them to post my content and give them free content. With that said, I will be posting as often as possible on the site and everyday and sometimes more then once a day on Facebook and Twitter. You can still follow us at these url’s Facebook: http://facebook.com/RonHawkesPhotography Twitter: http://twitter.com/rhawkes Photos: http://photos.ronhawkes.com Thanks and hope to see all of you frequently on Ron Hawkes Photography pages

I had to go to Camden early this morning and stopped at the park to get some photos of the harbor. I loved the clouds and their many shapes and colors as a storm moved into the area. By the time I was heading back to Rockland the skies opened up. Here is a link to the full gallery Here are a few samples from the gallery

Maggie loves stuffed animals and surprisingly they last her quite a while before she destroys them. Photos by Ron Hawkes

While I have been out of commission for the last week with this cold, flu what ever it is that is kicking my butt, I had to take some photos so Maggie was elected. These were taken in my office where Maggie posed very nicely for her photos, until she had enough, and that was the end. Maggie May will be two in April, three days before I turn 60, I think her and I are on the same page mentally sometimes. The dog collar was a gift from her uncle Jon, that was requested by my wife Kathleen. I’m not overly thrilled with it, but Maggie does not seem to care either way. Here are some other photos of Maggie posing in the office.
