Recently Ron Hawkes Photography unveiled a new photo web site from PhotoShelter that I really liked the looks of and the ease of operation from the back end. However the platform is not really suited for the type of photo sales I do and I could not give my customers the offers I wanted to, was limited in product and overall was not doing what I had hoped to accomplish. So the search started a new and what I ended up doing is going back to what I always thought was the best looking photo hosting company, they just used to have terrible customer service when I was with them in the past. The company is Zenfolio and I am quite happy with the new programs they offer as well as the new products, new features and they have become a full photographers web site with this blog included. Now when customers come to ronhawkesphotography.zenfolio.com everything will be in one location and you will only leave the site when you choose to. Today we are proud to not only unveil the new Ron Hawkes Photography, but also what I feel is the best looking site we have ever had...

THOMASTON – Every Thursday night from 7-10 p.m. the Highlands Coffee House and Adam Williams open up the restaurant for three + hours of music performed by amateur to professional musicians for an Open Mic night that usually fills the Highlands with music loving fans. This past Thursday was a very solid lineup of local musicians that also had many of the performers working with other performers. Click here for the photo gallery from Thursday night April 4. From old English standards, folk, country, rock, blues, you name it and someone performing probably plays it. There is not a cover at the Highlands, the food is outstanding. The service is provided by one of the friendliest staffs I have seen around. Every week is a little of the same and always a little new. Come check out the fun. You will not be sorry. Great music, great location and very friendly people, what more can anyone ask for. The Highlands is located on Maine St. (Route 1) in downtown Thomaston. Here is a video featuring a small piece from each of the performers. The Slide Show below is linked to the photo gallery. If you click on a photo...

The city of Rockland will get it’s ears blown off tonight when Mississippi Heat performs at the Time Out Pub as part of Paul Benjamins Time Out Blues Series. Mississippi Heat is, The man behind the harmonica is Pierre Lacocque, Mississippi Heat’s band leader and song writer. Pierre was born on October 13, 1952 in Israel of Christian-Belgian parenthood. However, shortly after his birth, Pierre’s family moved to Germany and France before going back to Belgium in 1957. By the age of 6, Pierre had already lived in three countries. Inetta Visor has blessed MISSISSIPPI HEAT with her voice since 2001. Her powerful, Etta James-like voice on Footprints On The Ceiling, Glad You’re Mine, and One Eye Open with the Heat is a testament to this blessing. Inetta was born February 4,1955 on the South Side of Chicago. She graduated from Simeon Vocational High School in 1972, and studied electronics at the Omega Institute, and worked as a radio engineer for then Chicago Alderman Roman Pucinski from 1975 to 1983. With 10 CD’s and a DVD the group has been around and built a reputation for their live shows. Show starts at 7 p.m. and there is a $15....

CD of the Month

CD of the Month

I’m going to start doing some CD reviews, video reviews and plain talk about music here a lot more. While I am a sports photographer by trade, I was in the music business for 35 years doing everything except performing. In my past life I have always been involved in some aspect of the music business. I started out as a roadie when I was about 15 years old, started booking bands, managing bands at 18 years old, attended the Brookline School of Music where I studied Harmonica and Music Business. Went to work at a wholesaler, picking record orders, became the buyer, managed a few record stores, became the operations manager at Deorsey’s, left there and moved to the midcoast where I went to work for Harbor Audio Video as the general manager.Moved to Colorado and went to work for Sound Warehouse, a company out of Texas with 150 stores. Worked in three stores for them as manager, the last one being in Tulsa Oklahoma called Buttons. That was about the end of the line for the music work. Until recently when my wife, who is a very good singer, decided to start a band with a friend...
